Install gnome globalmenu 0.7 series

gmHere’s a new howto explaining the steps to compile, install and enable the gnome-globalmenu-0.7 series from trunk on your desktop.

This has been tested on Ubuntu intrepid ibex but it should work on hardy too. It should also work with other distributions, except for the first step (dependencies install).
Globalmenu works with “real” gtk applications. That means globalmenu will not work with firefox and openoffice.

VMware sur Ubuntu

J’avais besoin d’une nouvelle image vmware plus grosse que ma vieille image vmdk de 2Go. Après quelques recherches, j’ai trouvé une solution avec qemu, mais le guide était peu clair et, la création de l’image vmware se faisait avec une commande ésotérique que je n’ai pas eu envie d’essayer de comprendre.
Je suis donc allé télécharger WMware Worstation 6.5.1. Après enregistrement vmware m’a envoyé un mail avec un lien d’activation pour obtenir une license d’evaluation sur 30 jours.

Comment installer globalmenu 0.6 sur Ubuntu Intrepid

Voici un nouveau tutoriel expliquant les étapes pour compiler, installer et activer gnome-globalemenu-0.6 sur votre bureau.
Ceci a été testé sur Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, mais devrait également fonctionner avec Hardy. Cela devrait aussi fonstionner avec les autres distributions exception faite de la première étape.
Globalmenu fonctionne avec des “vraies” applications gtk. Ce qui signifie que globalmenu ne fonctionnera pas avec firefox et openoffice.
Autre chose : globalmenu ne neccecite plus de patcher libgtk, bonne nouvelle :)

Elegant Dark MacMenu

After Elegant Dark, here comes the Elegant Dark MacMenu release, ready for global and macmenu.
You’ll have to add Panel/menubar-black.png (from the theme directory) as background for your panel using panel properties dialog (right click on an empty part of the panel and choose “properties” in the menu).

The corresponding metacity theme is included, there is also an emerald theme Elegant Dark Flat (link bellow). They give the flat looking, mac menu bar and panel have the original elgant dark menu colors.

Elegant Dark Gtk theme 1.0.3 (2 variants)

elegant-dark.jpgelegant-dark-flat.jpgAs I’ve seen requests for a dark elegant theme, I’ve started to work on this.
This is again deerived of Elegant Brit (by fmrbpensador AKA What is in a name? on ubuntuforums.org)
There is now a flat variant with corresponding metacity and emerald themes (links bellow).

Here’s a first release of it, including the metacity theme (emerald will come soon). There is now an emerald theme for each variant.
These themes are not global/mac menu ready (hopefuly also come soon).here is a mac/global menu version.

It might have some bugs, please let me know if you find some. Comments and suggestions ares welcome.
Hope you’ll enjoy it :)

Install by extracting in your ~/.themes directory or drag and drop the tarball in the theme manager.
Note: to have metacity buttons on the left, open gconf-editor, find the key /apps/metacity/general/button_layout and change it to : menu:minimize,maximize,close

Update : 1.0.3 : – slight color changes (widgets borders, notebook and tabs with a less dark grey) – started and added a flat variant with the corresponding metacity.

Gtk themes Elegant Cold Blue flat and black bar versions

capture.pngcapture-1.pngHere’s two new versions of my Elegant mod : a flat gray one and a black bar one (the closest to elegant brit and elegant one).

These two have the corresponding metacity theme included, based on elegant brit metacity theme (thanks once more to fmrbpensador).

The emerald theme that comes with the MacMenu version of Elegant Cold Blue can be used with the flat version gtk theme (same colors). I haven’t made a mod of the elegant brit emerald to use with the black bar version but the elegant brit emerald should fit though the close button is orange.

They are not global or mac menu ready (see my previous post if you need a global or mac menu version).

Gtk Theme Elegant Cold blue MacMenu

17032008.pngThis is not the the first time that I modify a gtk theme to fit my needs but this is maybe the first time I’m really happy with it :)
So I decided to release it. Maybe I won’t be alone to like it !

Elegant Cold Blue is a mod of Elegant Brit by fmrbpensador (AKA What is in a name? on ubuntuforums.org) who I thank a lot for all his awesome work.
This mod had a bit darker background color and all orange turned to a cold blue. It is also macmenu (and globalmenu) ready.
I also made an emerald theme (window decorations) that complete the theme.

Install by extracting to your ~/.themes directory or drag and drop the tarball to the theme manager.
Note : you may want to set Panel/menubar-black.png as panel background using panel properties dialog.

Global menu le nouveau mac menu

global menu new mac menuLe populaire hack gtk ainsi que l’applet imitant le menu mac n’est plus maintenu par son créateur original AdQ.
Heureusement, rainwoodman a lancé un nouveau projet basé sur le hack et l’applet d’AdQ (maintenant totalement réécrit) : globalmenu.
Maintenant, les menus sont détaché à l’applet du tableau de bord uniquement si celle ci est lancée et, les raccourcis claviers (par ex: Alt+F) sont fonctionnels.
