Here’s a new howto explaining the steps to compile, install and enable the gnome-globalmenu-0.7 series from trunk on your desktop.
This has been tested on Ubuntu intrepid ibex but it should work on hardy too. It should also work with other distributions, except for the first step (dependencies install).
Globalmenu works with “real” gtk applications. That means globalmenu will not work with firefox and openoffice.

J’avais besoin d’une nouvelle image vmware plus grosse que ma vieille image vmdk de 2Go. Après quelques recherches, j’ai trouvé une solution avec qemu, mais le guide était peu clair et, la création de l’image vmware se faisait avec une commande ésotérique que je n’ai pas eu envie d’essayer de comprendre.
Je suis donc allé télécharger WMware Worstation 6.5.1. Après enregistrement vmware m’a envoyé un mail avec un lien d’activation pour obtenir une license d’evaluation sur 30 jours.
Voici la commande apt-get permettant l’installation d’une pile LAMP basique sur ubuntu hardy 8.04, avec en plus quelque commandes de base pour demarrer rapidement. Continue Reading
J’ai trouvé un post sur le forum d’ubuntu-fr qui parlait de tilda avec la vriae transparence , han 
. Ca m’a envoyé vers un article avec un lien vers un patch et un paquet deb. J’ai testé ce deb qui a fonctionné sasn probème en dehors du fait que l’update manager voulait sans cesse le mettre à jour.
Du coup, j’ai récupéré le patch et, utilisé la meme methode apt-build (ou presque) que pour le mac menu, et j’ai contruit un paquet avec un numéro de version supérieur (le truc étant de rajouter une entrée au fichier debian/changelog).

I’ve tried the gutsy beta last week on an old toshiba s3000 laptop. The live cd worked like a charm, so I decided to install gutsy on my disk.
After the install and reboot, it was still working perfectly : very short boot time, gnome with compiz running very smooth. Then I noticed there were some updates (139 packages, not surprising for a beta version), and I did them.
Unfortunately, after reboot, I had a black screen instead of the GDM screen. Actually, GDM starts (I can hear the sound) but the screen is black, as if it was asleep. I even manage to login (in ‘blind mode’) !
By chance, I can access to the other tty’s and login in CLI mode.
